History & Mission

History

The Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association then known as the Dayton Area Hospital Council started in 1936 as an informal communication forum amongst local hospital CEO's. It slowly grew into a group purchasing organization which provided supplies necessary to meet the large scale demands of hospitals and to cut costs. In 1979, the organization was officially incorporated as the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association (GDAHA) a trade organization.

Since then GDAHA has grown into a full service not-for-profit association whose primary focus is the quality healthcare. Over the years GDAHA has developed numerous committees that consist of representatives from area hospitals, community groups and other healthcare organizations. Committees work with GDAHA staff to share common concerns and develop innovative solutions on a region-wide basis.

GDAHA is the central collection point for hospital data which is used for the analysis of trends in healthcare services, the employment market and furthering quality initiatives.

As legislative activity regarding healthcare providers, insurers and consumers has increased tremendously in recent years, GDAHA has evolved into a hospital industry advocate working to protect the interests of its members.

In addition, GDAHA and its partner organizations develop programs and services that enhance the positive impact of health. Many of these activities are developed cooperatively with association members and local agencies. Today the association is recognized by hospitals, business leaders, public officials, the media and the community as the regional resource for healthcare information.

Currently, GDAHA serves twenty hospitals throughout the 11 county greater Dayton area.
